A Short Summary of Different Evaluation Types and Tools That Can Be Implemented For BI Programming and In-General

Getting up to speed with commonly used evaluative strategies can be time-consuming. This page has been developed to help you quickly understand the main types of evaluation mechanisms and tools used in evaluative protocols. When it comes to evaluation, there are two types of evaluation and assessment mechanisms most commonly agreed upon. They are:

I. Formative: This type of evaluation will help you to obtain feedback about your project while they are in development. Formative evaluation allows you to continually fine tune your project and can increase the potential success of the project.

II. Summative: This type of evaluation measures the impact of programs after implementation of the program over a period of time. Summative evaluation can help you to identify best practices that could be used in the development of techniques, curricular and scientific models, and methodology on future projects. This type of evaluation typically combines assessment and research methodology.

Evaluation tools typically should complement the types of framework that will be used – it could be quantitative, qualitative, or a mixture of both.

Some commonly used evaluation tools could be:

 Interviews
 Surveys
 Focus groups
 Observations

Note: It is also important to realize that there could be and are many more ways to evaluate something.
